Engineer - 15552 in Plymouth, MI

Major Job Duties Include
*Perform reliability engineering and define environmental testing conditions for electronic control units.
*Work with the design engineering team and reliability- simulation team to develop and track a list of key design elements for an electronic module.
*Design tests for reliability and service life for the identified design elements.
*Work with the instrumentation team and OEM in order to develop a knowledge base of field conditions for an electronic control unit.
*Clarify product application boundary conditions with the OEM.
*Perform application evaluation.
*Develop/negotiate test requirements and appropriate DV/PV validation testing with the OEM based on vehicle data, boundary conditions and statistically derived and knowledge-based testing parameters.
*Optimize efficiency and effectiveness of test programs of existing electronic control units by reviewing and further development of applicable aging laws and the accelerated life parameters for mechanically related failure mechanisms (thermal, mechanical, humidity, chemical, etc.). Use this information to define the necessary test conditions to validate the product.
*Modify existing equation sets to specific electronic control unit simulation models.
*Support Simultaneous Engineering-, FMEA- and DRBFM-teams.
*Work with the test equipment development team with respect to test loads and test sequences for the proper validation of automotive electronic products.
*Review key design elements with the materials engineering team.
*Review data from the testing and materials engineering teams, organize the data and review with the design and reliability-simulation engineering teams.
*Mentoring/coaching of design engineers in BES elements
Minimum Job Requirements Include
*BS in materials science, applied physics, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering (Masters Preferred)
*A strong background in the areas of polymers and electronic materials with 3-5 years of experience
*A minimum of 1 year of that experience in the area of reliability engineering
*Experience in the development of automotive electronic products
*Understanding of partial differential equations and how they relate to mechanical simulation, physical testing and material analysis techniques
*Strong communication skills both with customers and co-workers
*Strong presentation skills in meetings and OEM upper management
*Knowledge of the 'Physics of Failure'
*MS office suite (i.e. Excel, Word and PowerPoint) Strong multi-tasking capability
*Knowledge/experience in the Design of Experiments
